EUNIS 2016

Organizers

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) has the honor of  hosting EUNIS annual Congress for the first time in Greece with the co-operation, support and oversight of the EUNIS Organisation.

AUTh is the largest comprehensive University in Greece. It is widely recognized as a vibrant center of learning which draws its inspiration from a long tradition of academic achievement. This can be underpinned, among others, by the fact that so much in science, as in the arts and divinity, medicine and technology, it prides itself in its international outlook.

The IT Center of AUTH is  in charge of organizing the Congress. IT Center is responsible for all network and computational infrastructure, and electronic services of the university, as well as the support of university users enjoying these resources. Its activities cover the provisioning, maintenance, operations, upgrades and development of these resources. The central role of the IT Center is to spread, develop and support of new technological solutions, computing and communications infrastructures within the university. At the same time, it participates in relevant research and development projects in order to attract funding, conduct applied research and obtain technical expertise. The end goal is to apply this expertise to the educational, research and administrative processes of the university.

With the support of our partner, NB Events, we will do our best to make EUNIS Congress 2016 a memorable event.

On behalf of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the host University for the 2016 EUNIS Congress, I would like to welcome you in Thessaloniki in June 2016.

This will be the first time the EUNIS congress will be hosted in Greece.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece and despite the financial difficulties, we invest every year remarkable resources in the field of Information Technology recognizing its special role in our daily administrative, educational and research operations.

We pride ourselves in the quality of electronic services that we offer to our academic community and in our continuous efforts to make e-University a reality.

Thessaloniki is the southernmost city hosting the congress so far and as a colorful historic city dating back two thousand three hundred years ago offers a great variety of cultural diversity ranging from archeological sites and Byzantine monuments to busy trade and business centers through the region. Combined with the warm sunny days of June and a hospitable spirit for all visitors and guests it is the best option for business and pleasure.

The congress venue is located in the center of the city, making it easy for participants to access Congress events while being within walking distance from hotels, cultural activities and entertainment venues.

Aristotle University welcomes all university IT leaders in this top event, EUNIS 2016.

Pericles A.  Mitkas
Rector of Aristotle University

It is with great pleasure that I welcome the EUNIS 2016 conference to Thessaloniki. It is an honor for Thessaloniki to host this major Information Technology event organized by EUNIS.

“Many stories, one heart” is the message Thessaloniki sends to its visitors. Thessaloniki is itself a mosaic, a lively and colorful city, where many trajectories meet and diverse stories connect, all beating together in one heart, the heart of the city. This is Thessaloniki’s unique charm.

A crossroads of cultures, Thessaloniki has always been the settlement for multiple ethnic and religious communities, a city with an abundance of monuments that reflect the city’s historic importance, dating from antiquity to modern times, with a long modern promenade along the waterfront, extensively renovated, with a rich culinary tradition reflected in the numerous restaurants, with a vibrant market located in the historic center, a lively presence of youth and an active academic research in the universities, the colleges and the technical institutions.

History, arts and festivals, education and scientific research, gastronomy, sea, sports, entertainment: our city has many stories to tell.

I warmly welcome our visitors, wish them a pleasant stay and invite them to explore Thessaloniki’s diverse stories.

Yannis Boutaris
Mayor of the city of Thessaloniki
