Even researchers of Medieval books move big data<br \/>\naround of high-res scanned pages of old manuscripts. To facilitate this<br \/>\nongoing growth of digitization a large e-infrastructure is being<br \/>\ndeployed and constantly innovated, specifically tuned towards research<br \/>\nand education. High Performance Computing, Cloud services and the<br \/>\nnetwork are all part of that e-infrastructure. Without it modern<br \/>\neducation and research would be limited to commercial generic tools with<br \/>\nsevere limitations and high costs. Most parts of the e-infrastructure<br \/>\nare almost invisible to European R&amp;E users.
