{"id":2239,"date":"2023-10-06T11:15:58","date_gmt":"2023-10-06T11:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eunis.org\/eunis2018\/?post_type=mec-events&#038;p=2239"},"modified":"2023-10-06T11:15:58","modified_gmt":"2023-10-06T11:15:58","slug":"keynote-8-nicolaas-matthijs","status":"publish","type":"mec-events","link":"https:\/\/eunis.org\/eunis2018\/events\/keynote-8-nicolaas-matthijs\/","title":{"rendered":"Keynote 8 : Nicolaas Matthijs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u201cUsing accessibility to enhance Teaching &amp; Learning : Accessibility \u2260 Disability\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>As the accessibility of digital course content is becoming\u00a0an increasingly important topic world-wide, institutions\u00a0must address long-standing and often overbearing\u00a0challenges.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><i><em>Vast amounts of course content &#8211; Large amounts\u00a0of course content make it difficult for an institution\u00a0to understand where they stand with accessibility\u00a0issues today<\/em><\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Lack of awareness and understanding &#8211;\u00a0Instructors struggle with a lack of awareness and\u00a0understanding behind the impact of accessibility\u00a0and how to create more accessible content<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Learners can fall behind &#8211; Learners can be\u00a0blocked or delayed in their courses due to the\u00a0time involved in gaining access to alternative\u00a0formats<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>This session will extend the traditional definition of accessibility to universal design and how more accessible content can lead to\u00a0higher quality, more usable content that\u00a0can benefit all students.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We will provide insight into the\u00a0current state of course content\u00a0accessibility to\u00a0show the trends and patterns\u00a0across\u00a0institutions and highlight the\u00a0challenges that still exist.
