Invited Speaker 2: Accelerating Higher Education’s Digital Transformation Journey

This session consists of an invited presentation followed by a roundtable discussion (Digital Transformation 2).

EDUCAUSE has named COVID as one of higher education’s current grand challenges. Even with progress on vaccinations, responding and adapting to the pandemic’s long term impact continues to play an important role in institutional planning. Major trends associated with this grand challenge are crisis mitigation, remote work and education, health and safety, and digital transformation. To help universities adopt and apply digital transformation (or Dx) more swiftly and effectively, EDUCAUSE has created a Dx Journey roadmap. The Dx Journey roadmap provides resources to support universities’ Dx work as they progress from learning about Dx in higher education to planning their Dx journey, and launch strategic transformation initiatives. The Journey roadmap supports three phases of a Dx Journey:

  1. Learn: Individuals and institutions new to Dx can start here to understand what digital transformation means for higher education and for their university. It provides definitions and identifies signs that Dx may already be happening at a university.
  2. Plan: This section helps institutions prepare for Dx by assessing their capabilities, setting goals, developing a roadmap, and getting colleagues across campus excited to be part of institutional change.
  3. Do: Institutions can apply a new Dx Framework to put your plans into action by launching strategic initiatives that will make your institution more competitive, flexible, and responsive.

We have released the initial version of the Dx Journey roadmap, with Learn and Plan resources. In 2021, we are focused on developing the Do section, which will use our new Dx Framework to provide exemplars and case studies of particular journeys, such as reinventing student services and using enterprise architecture as a digital transformation foundation.

Learn about our Dx framework and useful resources, and how they are helping universities reinvent their education, research, business models, and value proposition.
