With the concept of “Learning Sprints”, Europe’s largest university, International University IU, has put social learning at the center – no matter where, no matter when. Faculty and students use Power Apps to create or enroll in a Learning Sprint. Course data comes directly from the campus management system via API – so the Power App shows students only the Learning Sprints that are applicable to them. Whilst the “frontend” is simple and fast, automation runs in the “backend”: Teams and channels are created, permissions are set, participants are invited, documents are provided in the individual channels, meetings are scheduled and appointment invitations are sent. Thanks to the Graph API, almost nothing is impossible in automating Teams functions – across the entire lifecycle. After all, this also includes deactivating, archiving and later deleting Teams after the sprint. This way, legally compliant implementation and compliance with deletion deadlines are easily ensured.
During the sprints, the pairing bot repeatedly brings small groups of participants together and organizes group work. Especially the social aspect of these learning units has an important didactic function. This session also provides an outlook on the next steps: The bot will use Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to bring together the right people in an even more targeted way. Learning progress, working methods, but also working hours will play an important role. Here, in particular, Insight and PowerBI will provide a wide range of options for better understanding how the learning progress of their students is developing and where early support ensures learning success.
