Juan López
Juan López is a Computer Engineer from the Faculty of Computer Science of Barcelona (2002) and a Doctor of Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia- UPC (2011). In 2002 he joined the Department of Computer Architecture of the UPC where he teaches as a Collaborating Professor at the School of Telecommunications and Aeronautics Engineering of Castelldefels (EETAC).
His areas of interest focus on distributed embedded systems (DES) applied in different fields from avionics for unmanned systems to P2P media transmission in mobile terminals. He has carried out pre-doctoral stays at the Advanced Learning and Research Institute (ALaRI) of the University of Lugano (Switzerland), and at the Ecole National de l'Aviation Civile (Tolousse, France). In 2011 he participated in the creation of the UPC spin-off, Alteraid, dedicated to the development of Internet Of Things (IOT) technologies applied to e-health and well-being.
In 2013 he completed his postdoctoral stay at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. During that stay he developed a version of the software from his thesis (Marea Zero-A High Performance Middleware layer for GMSEC based on ZeroMQ) adapted to the needs of the High Performance Onboard Intelligent Payload Module for Orbital and Suborbital Remote Sensing Missions project.
He has participated as a researcher in more than 20 national and European projects as part of the Icarus group (Intelligent Communications and Avionics for Robust Unmanned Aerial Systems) at the UPC.
Currently he participates in the aUPaEU project of the European Commission within the framework of the HORIZON-WIDERA-2022-ERA-01 call. In this project he is responsible for the implementation of the acceleration services marketplace in the context of a coordinated support system for higher education institutions (HEIs).
