João Gabriel Silva João Gabriel Silva
João Gabriel Silva is currently Rector of the University of Coimbra, where he is full professor at the Department of Informatics Engineering of the Faculty of Science and Technology. He has been responsible for a strong internationalization of the University of Coimbra leading it to the forefront of global student attraction in Portugal. He got his PhD in Electrotechnical Engineering/Informatics in 1988. He was Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology from 2006 to 2011. Participated in many Portuguese and European funded research projects with many international strongly cited papers in Dependable Computing and Software Engineering. He chaired many international Scientific Conferences. Directed many industrial projects, among them the first Portuguese computer, the Ener 1000, back in 1981-84. Co-founded Critical Software SA, a well-known Portuguese software company. He pioneered the development of many university information systems, particularly the current University of Coimbra academic information system, called Nónio.
