John Murphy,  The University of Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland

Elected to the EUNIS Board of Directors till June 2016.

John Murphy is the Director of IT Services at the University of Dublin, Trinity College. The university was founded in 1592 and is the premier university in Ireland. John has served on the Board of EUNIS since 2010 and was the Chair of the organizing committee that brought the EUNIS Congress to Dublin in June 2011.
In January 2016, the EUNIS Board elected John as President. Working with the EUNIS Board he has developed a work-plan for EUNIS with a focus on greater governance and clear deliverables and roles and responsibilities for Board members. In the future, he will work with the Board to increase EUNIS visibility across Europe, develop relationships with other key organisations in the HE space, develop the role of task forces, publish EUNIS research and increase membership of EUNIS. He is also working with the Board to establish stronger links with commercial memberships and to increase attendance at our annual Congress.
He is a member of a number of institutions including the British Computer Society, The Innovation Value Institute, The Chartered Management Institute, the CIO Leadership Board and is a Board member of HEANET (Ireland’s NREN). He joined CEN (IT Skills standards) with a view to contributing to standards in IT skills in the sector, across the EU. He is also a member of the Institute of Directors.
He is currently working with IT senior management and other stakeholders on a number of key strategic initiatives at the University of Dublin including:

  • The development and implementation of a university wide Digital Transformation Strategy;
  • Enabling the university’s digital campus with a number of key initiatives based on a “cloud first” and “mobile first” IT Strategy
  • IT upskilling of all university staff
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity initiatives
