In an online session, hosted by Professor Shoji Kajita from Nagoya University and the AXIES EA community in Japan on 3 December 2025, leaders from across continents explored how shared reference models and coordinated benchmarking can support institutional transformation. The event brought together Enterprise Architecture communities from EDUCAUSE (ITANA), CAUDIT, UCISA, and EUNIS — a truly global collaboration shaping the future architecture of higher education.

Representing EUNIS, Enterprise Architecture SIG Leader Patrik Maltusch (Aalto University) and Evelien Renders (EUNIS President, SURF) contributed to this international dialogue, strengthening global cooperation in Enterprise Architecture. This kind of partnership highlights the real value of our worldwide EA network: aligning approaches, learning from one another, and building more interoperable, future-ready universities.

As universities become increasingly digital and international, integrating diverse systems, standards, and practices is more challenging than ever. That’s why EUNIS SIGs — from Enterprise Architecture to Mobility & Digital Credentials, Learning Technology, and Information Security — work together to develop shared frameworks and a common language for digital transformation.

If you’re curious about how coordinated architectures and shared standards can drive transformation in higher education, we invite you to watch a series of explainer videos in which Patrik Maltusch breaks down the HERM model.
