Learning Technology Special Interest Group

The Learning Technology SIG is dedicated to advancing the use of digital technology in teaching and learning across European universities. As higher education institutions navigate increasing digital transformation, this SIG will foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and evidence-based practices in the selection, implementation, and evaluation of learning technologies.

EUNIS’ mission includes empowering digitalisation professionals, enhancing institutional resilience, and influencing policy development in higher education. This SIG directly contributes to these strategic priorities by ensuring effective, innovative, and sustainable use of digital learning tools.

Goals

1. Support digital learning innovation: Facilitate the effective adoption and integration of learning technology solutions.
2. Foster collaboration within EUNIS: Connect experts in learning design, pedagogy, and technology.
3. Enable knowledge sharing: Provide a structured forum for discussing best practices and emerging trends.
4. Strengthen institutional strategies: Guide institutions in evidence-based decision-making regarding digital learning.

Roadmap

1. Develop structured knowledge-sharing formats (monthly webinars, bi-annual reports).
2. Create a collaborative digital learning repository with best practices and case studies.
3. Engage in cross-SIG initiatives with other EUNIS groups, such as Cybersecurity, Mobility & Digital Credentials and AI Ethics.
4. Contribute to EUNIS policy development by offering recommendations on digital learning strategies.

The Learning Technology SIG plans to organise activities under the framework of collaborative knowledge hubs that bring together experts from European universities.

These activities will include:

• Webinars and workshops to present case studies and discuss challenges in digital learning.
• Pre-congress workshops at the annual EUNIS Congress
• Publication of white papers and reports on key topics such as immersive learning (XR), AI in education, learning design, open educational resources and ecosystems, technology enhanced learning spaces, digital assessment, tools to support personalised and adaptive learning, learning analytics and recognition of skills and learning via digital credentials.
• Curated knowledge base including research literature summaries and explainers on new/emerging learning technologies.
• Recognition of good practice via the organisation and management of EUNIS awards in the field of interest (AV Awards/Dørup Award or their successors).
• Share good practice in the selection, implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of learning technologies
• Engagement with external networks such as 1EdTech, EDEN, EDUCAUSE, European Digital Education Hub (EDEH), Media & Learning Association and national higher education consortia.

Upcoming meeting

The launch of the SIG is planned for 3 June as EUNIS25 pre-Congress activity.

The recently launched Learning Technologies SIG has been created as a merge of Learning & Teaching and Emerging Tech Watch SIGs that joined forces! Find the outputs of bothe groups at their pages respectively.

Among the outputs being planned:

• Annual white paper on learning technology trends.
• Case study repository showcasing innovative digital learning implementations.
• Best practice framework for evaluating AI and XR applications in education.
