ZKI’s new Top Trends 2024 report shares insights from 353 CIOs, CDOs, and IT leaders across Germany, Austria, Switzerland—and for the first time, France.

The survey results are intended to help keep track of important developments, topics, and best practices, keep pace with the extensive topics of digitalization and the rapid innovation of technologies, and also provide suggestions for further development at one’s own institution.

The core survey addresses the most important topics and changes in the survey year in a standardized format. For 2024, the focus questions were on digital sovereignty:

  • dimensions of digital sovereignty and the role of open source software, cloud services, and partnerships,
  • IT security and cyberattacks,
  • IT governance models and the CDO and CISO positions.

Key takeaways:

• AI pilots are carried out everywhere, but strategies are rare
• Governance models for CIO/CDO/CISO still vary widely
• Project failures often come down to culture, not tech
• IT teams are expected to lead—not just support—innovation
