Motivations

I express my motivation in continuing in the EUNIS board of directors. Having served as Treasurer since 2017, I have been dedicated to ensuring the economic stability and transparency of our organization and maintaining healthy balance sheets.
During my tenure, I tried to implement effective financial management that may have positively impacted the organization. I take great pride in the achievements we have accomplished together. By providing regular and comprehensive financial reports to the board, I believe that I have facilitated informed decision-making and fostered a culture of financial accountability. On the other hand, I recognize that there are areas of underperformance, particularly in membership growth.
Looking into the future, I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for EUNIS. As a member of the board, I aim to build upon our previous successes and further strengthen our position. I plan to continue on implementing robust financial controls, exploring new revenue streams, and optimizing resource allocation. By doing so, I am confident that we can continue to advance EUNIS’s mission while maintaining our fiscal responsibility.
Recognizing the importance of membership growth for the long-term sustainability of EUNIS, I am committed to dedicating additional efforts and resources to address this issue. I understand that expanding our membership base is crucial not only for financial reasons but also for fostering a diverse and inclusive community. I will work closely with the board and other stakeholders to develop targeted strategies that attract new members, retain existing ones, and promote the value and benefits of being part of EUNIS.
I firmly believe that by addressing the challenges we face and capitalizing on our strengths, we can position EUNIS as a leading organization in our field. I am genuinely passionate about EUNIS and its mission and I am grateful for the opportunity to be considered for another term.

Short bio

Yiannis (Ioannis) Salmatzidis is the IT Manager of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), Greece. The IT Center of AUTH is responsible for all network and computing infrastructure, the IT services of the university and the IT Helpdesk. Its activities cover planning, development, procurement, management, security and maintenance of ICT resources. The center continuously innovates its infrastructure and provides services that expand teaching and learning, provides computing resources to enable research, supports the administrative needs of the academic community, and maintains a secure and reliable ICT infrastructure 24×7. The Aristotle University is the largest university in Greece. Approximately 60K undergrad and postgrad students study at AUTH. Yiannis graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He holds a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, with major in Control Systems from University of Maryland at College Park, USA. He is a Graduate Fulbright Fellow, a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and a member of the Technical Chamber of Greece. He is elected to the EUNIS Board of Directors till June 2023 (currently Treasurer) and the Administrative Board of the Greek Academic Network (GUnet).
