Community Support Officer (freelance)
Duration: October 2025 – July 2026 (10 months with possibility of continuation)
Time commitment: approx. 0.4–0.6 FTE (variable workload across the year)
Location: Remote, Europe-based
About EUNIS
EUNIS is the European non-profit organisation for IT and digitalisation professionals in higher education and research. Since 1993, we have supported our members in driving digital transformation, improving institutional resilience, and shaping the European higher education technology landscape through collaboration, advocacy, and community building .
Purpose of the assignment
We are seeking a Community Support Officer (freelance) to strengthen the coordination of our Special Interest Groups (SIGs), community engagement, and partnerships.
EUNIS SIGs are led by expert volunteers from across Europe. Their strength lies in bringing colleagues together to exchange knowledge and explore challenges in areas such as AI, mobility & credentials, cloud, and information security. To make sure SIG leaders can focus on their expertise, we provide dedicated coordination and support.
This assignment combines SIG coordination, community building, and sponsor/partner engagement into one integrated role, ensuring that corporates and sponsors are treated as part of the wider EUNIS community rather than as a separate activity.
Main tasks
- SIG coordination and support
- Support SIG leaders with administrative and logistic tasks
- Organise SIG meetings, online events, and documentation (Zoom, registration, newsletters, reports)
- Coordinate new SIG proposals with the board and ensure smooth establishment of new groups
- Stimulate growth and participation in SIG communities (mailing lists, newsletters, outreach)
- Collect and document SIG outputs (summaries, videos, reports) and publish via EUNIS channels
- Community building
- Act as first point of contact for SIG-related questions and new initiatives
- Ensure alignment between SIG activities, the EUNIS annual congress, and broader strategy
- Monitor and promote synergies between different SIGs and the board’s strategic priorities
- Support evaluation, reporting, and improvement of community activities
- Corporate and sponsor engagement
- Support the board in building and maintaining relationships with corporate members and sponsors
- Ensure corporates and sponsors are included as part of the community (not as a silo)
- Follow up on sponsor agreements, communications, and visibility in SIGs and events
- Strategic partnerships (support role)
- Once priorities are set at board level, coordinate practical follow-up and relationship management with selected partners
- Ensure consistency and continuity in communications, documentation, and visibility via for example joint webinars
Profile
We are looking for a freelancer with:
- Experience in community management, event coordination, or partnership support
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently across multiple projects, with attention to detail
- Familiarity with higher education and/or international networks is an advantage
- Comfort with online tools (Zoom, Google Docs, newsletters, basic website content management)
- Collaborative mindset: able to support busy experts and volunteers in a flexible, service-oriented way
Team and collaboration
You will be part of a small but international support team that keeps EUNIS running day-to-day. The EUNIS board consists of 11 elected members from across Europe, who contribute part-time. You will work most closely with the President (based in the Netherlands), two to three designated board members, and the support team, which currently consists of:
- Communications manager Anna, based in Poland
- Membership manager Laurence, based in France
- Event coordinator Catherine, based in the UK
- Visual communication specialist Lucía, based in Spain
The Community Support Officer will be the main contact for SIG leaders, helping them coordinate activities and ensuring their contributions connect back to EUNIS’s wider strategy and events.
You will also be invited to join the two in-person board and support team meetings and the annual congress:
- 19–21 November 2025 in Timișoara, Romania
- 1-5 June 2026 (also in Timișoara)
Travel and accommodation for these meetings will be covered.
Working conditions
- Freelance assignment, approx. 0.5–0.6 FTE on average
- The workload is spread across the week, as SIG activities and deadlines require regular, flexible availability
- Certain periods (pre-conference, SIG events) may be more intensive, while others lighter
Contract and remuneration
- Assignment duration: October 2025 – July 2026 (possibility of renewal)
- Remuneration: to be agreed based on quote and experience. Please provide a daily, monthly, or total quote for the assignment in your application.
